From humble beginnings in Taylors Arm (population 50) on the north coast around six years ago, Murray's relocated to Port Stephens in 2009 where today they run a microbrewery, Cellar Door and one of the region's best restaurants, The Brewery Restaurant.
Murray's has also recently opened its first Sydney venue, Murray's Brewery Restaurant and Bar at Manly.
The Australian consumer's demand for craft beer has seen Murray's Craft Brewing Co. significantly increase its beer sales in the past few years. Craft beers are growing in popularity and there are now close to 120 micro breweries in Australia. Murray's has expanded its brewing capacity and is committed to showcasing its beer to a wider audience nationally.
Murray''s is proud to have the highest number of beers included in this year's The Cri tics' Choice Australia's Top 100 Best Beers.
We give the Murray's Angry Man Pale Ale a go
The Brown Ale is winning hearts and minds among my friends. This ale will certainly win a lot of fans as well, particularly Antipodean hop lovers.
a) Pours a murky dark honey. The head is quite finely bubbled.
s) Very much in the Pacific Ale sub-style of APA. Strong, tropical, resinous aromas, with the guava & passionfruit that has become the fashion of late.
t) This is Alpha Pale meeting Stone & Wood Pacific. The oomph of the former and the fruit the latter. Spicy, wild vegetation.... like macheteing your way through lantana. Followed up with an elegant caramely malt, which belatedly apologises for the machete damage.... Firm and appropriate bitterness. A big pale ale, beautifully crafted and a joy to drink.
m) Hop-oil tingliness ahead of a medium & smooth body. Fairly dry finish which gives the bitterness an extra edge.
o) I think this is Murray's beer at its best. Good hops, good malt, good beer. You can keep your dark/Belgio/impy freakshow.... this is what I'll be drinking.
